Case Study – Extreme Fatigue and Immune Weakness
One of our clients, who for privacy reasons we will call “Mrs Robinson”, came to see Andie Duggan, one of our amazing naturopaths, in relation to various health complaints. Here is her story:-
Patient History:
Mrs Robinson came to see me with excessive tiredness and weight gain, which she had experienced for the past 4 years. On top of her work-life she had high stress levels at home as the carer for her husband who has a serious health condition. Mrs Robinson reported current anxiety and depression, which had been helped in the past to some extent by fish oil. She also complained of a sore throat, which had been bothering her for about 4 years.
Treatment:
I referred her to her GP for blood tests to check iron levels and previous viral exposure, as post-viral fatigue and anaemia are both common causes of fatigue. In the mean time I prescribed fish oils to help with depression and a supplement for stress management.
Two weeks later Mrs Robinson’s blood test results revealed no signs of low iron or previous viral exposure. Having ruled out the more serious causes for her fatigue and poor immunity I turned to the body for some signs. Mrs Robinson had very dark, blue/purple circles under her eyes and the whites of her eyes were off white to slightly yellow in colour indicating a liver component to her ill-health.
I put Mrs Robinson on a herbal liver remedy with additional antiseptic/immune boosting herbs to help clear the persistent sore throat. I also recommended she avoid certain foods to relieve the burden on her liver and prescribed a powder to support the liver in its detox.
Results:
Two weeks later Mrs Robinson returned to our clinic feeling “fantastic!” Her energy levels were 9/10 and she hadn’t had a sore throat for two weeks (the first time in 4 years!). Finally she had the energy and wellbeing to cope with the strains and stresses in her life. To top it off, she had lost 1.5kgs! Needless to say Mrs Robinson was over the moon. This is a perfect example of the results we can get when a patient is ready and willing to do what it takes to get their health back on track again.
